Agenda 2030: a holistic approach for cultural transformation

Out of Competition – MAY 1 at 2:30 pm at BLA

As a communication tool, cinema is one of the best means of disseminating and advocating sustainable development as per the goals defined in the 2030 Agenda. Issues such as eradicating poverty and hunger, safeguarding health and the environment, are addressed in various cinematic works and allow us to broaden the debate and to bring more attention to matters that differ from the usual agenda setting. From the standpoint of integrated sustainability, it is essential to adopt an approach promoting cultural transformation, with the aim of spreading responsible production and consumption models, as well as promoting the active and conscious citizen’s involvement. Cinema, being an artistic and creative language, assumes a strategic role in educating audiences to more aware and responsible lifestyles and choices, disseminating the major themes concerning sustainability.

This thematic selection of Ennesimo Film Festival offers a change in perspective. Shifting the point of view to address themes that do not represent an issue for some people, while constituting an everyday challenge for others. This is a key exercise to do, as the world in 2024 is facing an upsurge of world hunger, a looming climate crisis and worrying data on economic prosperity.
