What’s Up with Numbats? wins Psiche Prize of the Ennesimo festivalfilosofia 2024
The jury of Not the Ennesimo festivalfilosofia, composed of the university professor and editorialist Massimiliano Panarari, the author Francesca Modena and the journalist and film critic Carlo Maria Rabai, has chosen the film What’s up with numbats? by Elis Rumma:
A foray into the darkness of the Baltic night and the human psyche. The young Estonian director reveals the hidden obsessive-compulsive side of the apparent mental order and Nordic rigor, and she does so with a stylistic maturity and aesthetic integrity that recall the best post-Soviet cinema.
The jury also assigned two Special Mentions
To the film Sur la touche by Kahina Ben Amar
for the intensity of Amira Ould Braham’s interpretation and for her ability to represent the inextricable lump of family ties in a migratory context but with universal value.
And the second special mention goes to the film Et si le soleil plongeait dans l’océan des nues by Wissam Charaf
A tragicomedy of the absurd that stages some contemporary themes: the alienation determined by economic processes, the disintegration of an individual psyche and the post-modern crisis of the male function. With a look between Pirandello and Fellini, the director moves between the stylistic registers of the dreamlike and the grotesque with great effectiveness.
