From The Crown to Game of Thrones: the secret of casting with Ruth Earley

What does a casting director do? Academy students talk about it with Ruth Early who has been working in the film industry for 15 years and can boast on her CV collaborations with the productions of The Crown and Games of Thrones, among others. The search for and selection of performers for a film is one of the most important jobs that a film production has to perform. It is not just a matter of choosing an actor for a role but includes different skills such as knowing how to assess the ability of a performer, and estimating their value from a market point of view. It is therefore a role that combines creativity and great psychological and artistic insight. The casting director is a talent capable of mediating with the director and the other production roles, suggesting solutions taking into account commercial and marketing needs. A well-rounded role then, which Ruth Earley has been performing for about 15 years in the UK and Ireland and recently also in the US. She has worked in the casting department for films such as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Wonder Woman, and The Justice League, although the productions she is most proud of are small and independent ones such as The Dutch Girl.

RUTH EARLEY
Ruth has worked for several production companies, including Universal Pictures and Warner Bros, with whom she has participated in the casting of many films, such as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Wonder Woman, and Justice League. Among her outstanding work for TV series we can find The Crown and Peaky Blinders with Cillian Murphy. However, her favourite part of her casting career does not involve movies from big productions, but more independent ones, such as The Dutch Girl. In 2018 Ruth suffered a life-changing spinal cord injury, but she has continued to work in the film industry, now focusing mainly on writing screenplays. Ruth is currently working on a film in the U.S., where she will soon move to complete an advanced postgraduate program at UCLA: a course for only 8 people from around the world.ole 8 persone provenienti da tutto il mondo.
