I bet you had barely recovered from the late hunt for the perfect gift for Christmas and here you are again looking for another great one, just trying not to disappoint your sweetheart on Valentine’s Day! Of course, the holiday can be rough if you’re single, but in the end St. Valentine’s Day is the best opportunity (and it’s a good excuse!) to watch sweet and romantic movies, just because it’s St. Valentine’s Day.
Chocolates, cards, a dinner out or -our favorite Tv show – pizza and movies, are all excellent ideas to spend a romantic evening together. One thing is certain: single or not, the film never disappoints. And neither we do.
We, Ennesimo Film Festival’ Team, decided to share with you our favorite films for this occasion, from masterful classics to slightly alternative choices . And if you’re not in the mood for any love and romantic, cinema propose a new animated film Lego Batman – The Movie and Greg Mottola’s film Keeping Up with the Joneses.
But, let’s get back to our suggestions list . If you are expecting titles like Titanic, with Jack and Rose, or a Nicole Kidman in the role of Satine in Moulin Rouge, you can stop reading now.
Our first suggestion is French Women: an exuberant film, which takes almost all the clichés that concern the female world, with big exaggerations and excessive coincidences. A funny comedy about the contradictions of contemporary woman.
R and Julie are part of two different groups, hostile among them, who discover they love each, even if they are so different, Warm bodies is a fun and zombie – romantic movies, with an ingenious plot that will surprise you.
About out-of-the-box love stories, we recommend you Her a movie with the special relationship between Theodore and Samantha: she is a software that can evolve based on user needs.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Wicker Park are the classic Valentine’s films. Turbulent relationships, impossible coincidences (sometimes irrealistic) and complicated characters. What we like most about these films? There are no stereotypes, they are films that will leave you in breathless until the end.
On Valentine’s Day you can not forget Love Actually, which presents many kind of love (not all of them), in 10 different storylines with an huge cast: Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson, Alan Rickman and Keira Knightley.
What about Brokeback Mountain movie: a modern Western that turns upside down the idea of romance, with the sensual and poignant interpretation of Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal as two cowboys in search of a summer seasonal work.
Finally, if for you St. Valentine’s Day is nothing more than an excuse to watch romantic comedies with your partner, then you need to arm yourself with handkerchiefs, chocolate and plaids before start to watch Me Before You: the love story between a town girl and a charming rich man bedridden. If you are looking for a much stronger emotions do not forget The Notebook: a summer romance between Allie and Noah that will make you cry, cry and cry.
